Study Trip to the Region Thermen- & Vulkanland
- 4 minutes of reading time
Thermen- & Vulkanland and East Styria
Culture & Culinary for young hearts
The third study trip of the year took place from 13 to 15 June 2025, this time in the picturesque region Thermen- & Vulkanland. Educators and organisers of youth group trips dived into a world of relaxation, action and education, in order to discover tailor-made programmes for their young groups.
The trip began with the arrival at the H2O Thermal Resort in Bad Waltersdorf, an ideal starting point for exciting days. A tour of the facility showed the versatility of the house: in addition to the numerous water attractions, there are also three seminar rooms available here, which can be used flexibly to meet the various needs of the groups. Whether for workshops, language programmes or even as a rehearsal room for music groups. The evening ended relaxed in the thermal spa after a rich buffet.
The Saturday started off great at Herberstein Zoo. An exciting tour through the site with the zoo keeper provided a deep insight into the animal world. A special highlight was the visit to the House of Biodiversity, where the zoologist used numerous interactive and hands-on stations to make the fascinating diversity of life tangible. What is biodiversity and how many different types of mushrooms are there in Austria? You and your young group will find the answers right on site and they will surprise you! After a strengthening lunch in Herberstein, the day ended with one last attraction: the cheetah feeding. 🐆
Then it was off to the mighty Riegersburg Castle, which sits atop an extinct volcano and is impressive from a distance. At the visitor centre, Sabine and Grega Kevs from the "Naturburschen" welcomed the participants warmly. They showed where one can try archery at the foot of the castle. A great activity for bonding and improving the dexterity of your class or youth group!
The last stop of the day was the Vulcano ham experience world. 🐷 A short film gives exciting insights into the company's origins and values. Afterwards, the pigsties with the piglets could be visited, before the day ended with a delicious tasting. An authentic experience for your young group to impart valuable knowledge about regional production and animal husbandry!
The Sunday and final day began with a special visit: Mayor Johann Fiedler of Bad Waltersdorf personally presented the various leisure and activity options around the H2O Therme. Afterwards, the group took the opportunity to explore the Schlaumeierweg on their own. An interactive educational trail that conveys knowledge in a playful way and starts right at the spa. The best part? Whoever answers all the sometimes curious questions at the Schlaumeier stations has the chance to win great prizes. Until departure, the participants could once again enjoy the amenities of the spa to the fullest. 💦
The H2O Therme and the excursion destinations in the surrounding area offer relaxation and at the same time numerous opportunities for education, exercise and action, which can be perfectly integrated into the programme of a school or youth group.
➡️ Are you organising excursions in your youth club, school trips or youth outings? Then we would like to invite you to 💚 to discover the Graz Experience Region with us on the Route 4 study trip from 3 to 5 October.
