Gasthaus zur alten Press
GrazQuaint Styrian tavern with a long tradition and a focus on regionality and seasonality
Kulinarium Steiermark
In the historic setting of Griesgasse 8, the Gasthaus zur Alten Press invites you to an authentic Styrian culinary experience. First mentioned in 1663, it combines rustic charm with warm hospitality – a long-established gem in the gastronomy scene appreciated by both young and old.
Chef Dieter Skrobanek and his partner Karina passionately lead this traditional establishment. Skrobanek, known for his creative touch, serves both down-to-earth classics and surprising delicacies – from potato-herb dumplings to chili beef tartare and fillet steak with a truffle crust and pork cheek.
Each dish reflects a connection to the homeland: meat comes from local farms in Western Styria, eggs from the nature park and Southern Styrian wine country, along with the use of locally produced pumpkin seed oil, lamb's lettuce from Graz, and Eastern Styrian apples. This results in genuine Styrian quality.
Whether for breakfast (Mon–Fri at 10 AM), lunch menu, or dinner menu – the repertoire ranges from classic meat dishes to vegetarian and vegan specialties, as well as seasonal game specialties. The rustic decor, featuring a music, hunter, and cozy corner, combined with antique stone floors and plenty of wood, creates a cozy atmosphere.
