About the history

In 1980, 6 men decided to establish a gallery in Kindberg. Gerhard Schluller; he became the organizational leader of the gallery. Among the founding members were also 3 visual artists from Kindberg, Engelbert Habersberger, Franz Krammer, and Otto Müllner. Finally, the Kapfenberg literati Siegfried Lämmerhofer and Wolfgang "Hannah" Steinwender were also included. They rented a former shoemaker's workshop in the Pesl House, Kirchengasse 1, where they carried out renovations, allowing the original space of about 60 square meters with its vault to be highlighted again. Choosing a name was not difficult: "Galerie K" stands for Kindberg, Kirchengasse, Art, and the cat by Gerhard Schuller in the picture, and Otto Müllner created a linocut with a cat as the logo for Galerie K.

The gallery set itself the following goals:

It aims to be open to all areas of art

It wants to encourage people to look and listen, to think and react

It aims to provide the audience with support for understanding art

It wants to make art and culture in everyday life more conscious, turning it into a necessity.

It aims to prevent art from being commercialized.

It will not yield any material profit.

The opening took place at a vernissage featuring works by Engelbert Habersberger, Franz Krammer, and Otto Müllner on March 20, 1981.
