Burgruine Schachenstein
ThörlSchachenstein Castle in Thörl is the last high castle built in Styria (1464-1471). Abbot Johann II. Schachner, from St. Lambrecht, had it constructed. He was lord over the entire area around Aflenz extending far into the Mariazell region. Thus, he was not only a powerful church prince whose word was declared from the pulpit of the church in Aflenz, but he also held secular power over the land and people in this area.
Today it is privately owned. A visit to the complex is not possible!
